Lookin' to Lose Lbs?

I haven't exactly made it public that I'm attempting to get back down to the weight I was when I graduated high school, but I had to share the excitement I've had since I started during Thanksgiving Holidays.  Kayla got me an iPod Touch as an early Christmas present.  She found a free Application on hers called Lose It!  which is basically a calorie counter.  I thought it was pretty sweet so I downloaded it to my new iPod and started keeping track of how many calories I consumed...wow, what an eye opener!

I may get into the details of my success up to this point in a later post, but the purpose of this blog post was to let you know a piece of advice that helped me get over a recent hump in my weight loss journey.  I subscribe to a newsletter from Everyday Health and their "Diet & Nutrition" section.  The article from this past Wednesday described exactly how I overcame a stagnant slump in my weight loss.  I was just cutting the calories out of my diet, but exercising gets the metabolism going and aids in weight loss even when NOT exercising.  So check it out and don't give up on that New Year's resolution you made just 2 months ago.  If you've already stopped, get back on the horse...you can do it.  You don't have to have an iPod  and the Lose It! App to lose weight, but you do need to burn more calories than you consume.  A simple concept that is much easier said than done.

Remember, none of this matters in the grand scheme of things...eternity.  Paul wrote, "...for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come" (1 Timothy 4:8).  You can physically exercise and be in the best shape of your life, but it doesn't even matter if you aren't spiritually exercising.  Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15).  So, do you love Jesus, are you keeping his commandments?
