Yes Man

The movie was superb today. Jim Carrey is the man. He has done so many great movies. I especially like movies that challenge the viewer AND provide a laugh. Yes Man really makes you think about the way you are living life. Do not let opportunities pass you by or you're just simply not living. Carpe diem..."seize the day." I shall attempt to be a Yes Man with the exception of my values...I will not compromise my principles. Bring on the world!

Movies

I believe we're going to see Yes Man today. I saw a trailer for it and it looks pretty good. I was skeptical about it at first because it looked like a modern day Liar, Liar. I don't think this has any resemblance though. I look forward to it.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas!

The Brevity of Life

Sue Bankston went to meet the Lord this morning. Kayla and I have extended our stay in Memphis to honor this wonderful lady's life on Friday at her funeral. We will certainly miss her for our remaining days on earth, but will see her again at the pearly gates of Heaven. It is bitter sweet when someone like this passes away because she is no longer with us physically on earth, but we know that she is in a much better place and we'll only be separated for a short while. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandma. Thank God for her wonderful example.

Christmas Vacation

It is a Bankston family tradition to watch the movie Christmas Vacation every year. For those unfamiliar with the National Lampoon vacation movies, Chevy Chase plays the main character Clark Griswold (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevy_Chase). It is a fun tradition. Kayla and I started a tradition of our own for Christmas time last year. We watch Elf and build gingerbread houses (of course hers always is the best:)

Tomorrow we embark on our journey to Florida where the temperatures could reach the 80's on Christmas Day. There were many Christmases that we wore shorts to play with our new toys outside. I do love the warmth! Hope everyone has a merry Christmas and enjoys traditions of your own.

Christmas Time!

Time to head out to visit the fam for the holidays. Memphis till the 23rd then the Burg till about the 30th. Hope everyone drives safe and has a great time with whomever they spend time with.

Come 2009 I will be a graduate student at Harding University Graduate School of Religion. I received my acceptance letter this past week and start in January. My degree will be a Masters of Divinity with a concentration in Old Testament. I am very excited!

What's The Deal!?

I cant believe Dan Mullen may not call the shots at the National Championship. When Florida wins it all, they shouldnt even give Mullen a ring if he doesnt call the plays!

Heisman

Heisman trophy or no Heisman trophy, that does not matter as far as the Gators are concerned. Sure, it would have been SWEET for Tebow to win it two years in a row, but I would rather have the National Championship for the team and I think that's gonna happen for good ole Tebow. It should definitely be a good game (though I hope Florida tosses them around like rag dolls)! Too bad OU had to run up the score on their lousy opponents to pad the stats for Sam.

The Ole Cheese

As I'm drivin' the twinkie the other day (a cold one), I was wearing my letterman jacket from Harding. A junior high school boy asked, "What does the 'H' stand for?" I replied, "Harding." He asked if I went their and I said I had graduated. He proceeded to ask, "So you graduated from college and became a bus driver!?" So I continued, "Oh yeah! It was my life ambition." Here's your sign kid. I am a part time school bus driver and love it.

I can blog from my phone!

So Long Dan Mullen

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3760099

Dan Mullen was the offensive coordinator at Florida till the Mississippi St. head coaching position opened up. He's had a good run the past few years with the Florida offensive and now he's gonna take over the MS St. program and turn it around. If you know Bob Stoops, the Oklahoma head coach, he came from Florida as well serving as the Defensive Coordinator and then went to Oklahoma and they've done great. Within two years, Mississippi St. will be competing for the SEC championship. Thought I'd be the first to say so.

Jumpin Through Hoops

buying a house is a pretty big deal and it is not very easy to get pre-approved. i'm hoping this is the worse part because it seems like me and the bank are going back and forth on things I need to do. I'll do what they want and then they want something else. hopefully this will be done soon.

a couple of lessons I learned today were never give up on somebody. no matter how bad you got it, somebody's got it worse.

The Real World

I suppose you could say I am officially in the real world. That is, I'm finished with high school, I have a college education, and now I have to enter the work force full time. Kayla and I decided to stay in Arkansas and work with Four Mile Hill church of Christ. They have hired me to be a full time minister while Kayla took a job at the Pangburn public school district teaching 6th grade math and reading. One of the main benefits of staying in this area is that I will be able to pursue a masters degree in Bible and religion at a church of Christ based institution. I am thoroughly looking forward to our future.

happy anniversary to and erin!

sweet victory

the feeling i had after my last final exam of my college career was indescribable! we got a dog last sunday. we named him Eddie. he's a 12 week old shih tzu and a lazy pup. he does get sporadic bursts of energy and then zonks out for a few hours. he's good at listening and is doing good with the potty training escapade. we'll see how he does on our 13 hour journey to florida next week.
