The wise man wrote, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV). It is vitally important for God’s people to set goals. I remember a New Year’s sermon from 2001 that challenged each person to bring 1 person to Christ in ’01. The play on numbers was an entertaining way to push the audience, but the call is still relevant today in 2011. Set a goal on how many people you want to introduce to Jesus. Pray for creativity in showing others to Christ. Ask God to open your eyes to new opportunities and open doors that could potentially lead someone to Christ.
Many resolutions people make for themselves are often put by the wayside before February. In fact, Answers.com claims, “Simple repetitive tasks require a time frame of approximately 21 days to condition.” Are you trying to start a habit of daily devotionals with God? Do not get discouraged, but keep it up. You may already be weeks behind in your Bible reading schedule, but do not wait for another New Year to renew the goal. Plan it out, write it down, and have someone to account to.
